‘Give me a bucket...

of sand and I will sing you a dessert song!’

I said today on the phone to my latest beau...
Billy. Remember him? Bunter, in case you’ve forgotten.

When he was last here
he sat opposite me in my king’s chair, I sat under my much loved palm and flirted with him, albeit gently, all the while sitting between us, Hubs thought, she’s off again.  He’s seen it all before, trouble is everybody, but everybody knows how daft I am.
Even the wives of the aforesaid
victims don’t turn a hair on their beautifully coiffured heads, just sip their pink gins and think

‘Harmless old bat!’

Anyway back to the story...

‘Now about this palm!’

‘I can picture you now as we speak!’

He gallantly replied, all the while thinking

‘Harmless old bat!’

‘I am worried about it in the dark container!’

I think at this point I need to fill you in as to how we finally got the deal through.  Only after getting grief now from our buyers as well as the wicked witch of
Shrops, we agreed to move out one week and move in a week later.  That left me with the problem of
the palm and how it would fare
being left a week in a container.
The size of it meant we couldn’t
take it with us on our road trip.

I was beside myself with worry.

To the rescue rides B. Bunter Esq.

‘Being as you are one of our especial clients (they moved us
here) I will just for you, ask the lads if they will remove it from the container and put it in our reception area for the week!’

What a man: collapsible grosgrain top hat notwithstanding!

The sold sign and the wild weather today.

    1. Sue, we can’t believe it has happened. Both of us in our different lives have moved around quite a bit, but this move has been especially tricky. Worth it we think, only time will tell?

  3. This cheered me up no end. What a nice man! People are mostly nice I find. The weather here is horrible too. A night to stay in for sure. x

    2. dreadful unfortunately. My dad has stabalised but my brother is off the planet. He's so desperate to 'save' my dad he is being totally unreasonable and at times abusive to both me and my mum. He's also gathering a 'gang' of supporters - times like this you find out who the idiots are in your family!! I have my own we gang too though, my hubby, daughter and my sons are keeping me sane. It is what it is but I'm trying to keep as much away from the dramas as possible, not easy as I have to keep 'protecting' my mum from the worst of it all. This too shall pass though. :D Enjoy your packing and thanks for asking. Sorry for telling! Don't you hate it when you ask someone how they are and they launch into a very detailed description of how they are! lol.

    3. Being an only child I have no idea about the dynamics of family life. I do know from friends that my rose tinted view from the outside looking in, is just that rose tinted! I find it hard at times getting on with myself, let alone a hapless brother or sister!

Even on such a passing acquaintance such as ours, you must know by now that I wouldn’t have asked if I had wanted anything less than a truthful answer. Tell it like it is has always been my motto, and many times Ted has said to me after I’ve opened my mouth and neatly put my foot in it... ‘Perhaps you should of taken a diplomacy tablet LL,?’ Bit late in the day to start now...

    1. Yes, my flirting paid off. He was such a dapper gentleman, I just couldn’t let my admiration for his suaveness go unnoticed! Life is full of so many grey people.

  5. When we moved here to Harpenden from Morpeth 40 years ago, it was freezing weather ( January) and I lost a lot of my house plants in the removal van from the cold ! (It took 2 days for the move)
Hope that your palm survives.....send watering instructions in case some over enthusiastic palm carer decides to water it every day!

    1. Luckily with all this argy-bargy we won’t be moving until mid April, so not as bad as your mid January expedition. That is a good point about the watering, I will as you suggest pin a note on it to not water! Thanks Frances.

  6. What fun! I wonder what mischief you will get up to while you kick your heels and wait to get into this beautiful house which we are all desperate to see. I bet your blood pressure has improved.

    1. Well Elaine, I’m already there in my head. The mischief thus far is, we have enrolled on a mindfulness course, when I read your comment I was just about to embark on a session linked to the BP monitor. Must say the reading after half an hour was perfect, problem is I think I snoozed most of it away, so probably not an accurate assessment!?!

  7. You're sure he is a removal man and not an undertaker?!?
Great job on the mindfulness! I hope you get a good trainer
And you will have ample material to practice on!

    1. He most definitely was the front man of the removal company and what a beacon he was in what must be a strange career. His specialist subject was the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, hence the wonderful apparel.

Mindfulness, a few days in on our course and boy am I going to need it when we tackle the elephant in the room, Audrey, see next blog post.

  8. I'm quite sure the advice won't be to 'tackle the elephant' .. 😁 but more in the lines of ' make sure you're not crushed by elephant' 😉

    1. Unfortunately Adie, elephants having a long memory means she still bears a grudge in her book of my past misdemeanours. At times I do feel I am in a circus.
