Am I missing...

something here?  Highly likely as I am a tad slow on the uptake!

I have suddenly got a rash of odd comments.
Normally I like odd, but this is odd-odd.  Being a simple soul I think blogging is and should be open to all. Are they peddling their wares, if so what wares?  If you know, please will you put me in the picture?  Also how to prevent it would be good.  At the moment I am laboriously deleting each one.
Alright I am pleased to get comments but there is limit!

  1. I get a lot of odd Spam comments, too, Lettice, and I just delete them. Some are selling articles, which I do not want as I'm a writer myself and I don't want others' writings on my blog, and some are just plain weird, as you say. I don't think there's any way of stopping these Spam comments, they go into Spam and I check them to make sure that no real comments have gone there, but 99% of the time they're rubbish and/or weird.

  2. Thank you for that Margaret. Trouble is ‘rubbish and/ or weird’ might have some sinister message which us trusting souls don’t get? I just don’t want to be an innocent party to their whatever?

    1. I agree. I never open attachments and delete the emails right away.

  3. don't have automatic publication of comments...and just delete the spam. If one gets persistent, report and block...its easy

    1. I did have that to start with and then it sort of self combusted!

  4. I think once they (the creepy spammers) find you its hard to get rid of them. For years my email was virtually spam free then suddenly last year I started getting porn type emails and it worries me hugely as I don't know how to stop them. I'm always terrified I inadvertantly open one, especially on my phone with my sausage fingers! I'm not sure what exactly it is I'm terrified of, maybe just that if I open it 'they' will 'find' me!! and I'll get even more. I delete them but I wish there was a button somewhere I could press to make them not able to come back again! The joys of the internet. x

    1. I could think of a few people in the world I would love to ‘button’.
