Just had a thought...

I love the folk who take the time out to comment, I like their honesty, their views on the sometimes wacky things that float my particular boat.

Of late I have been a tad flat, so much so my blogging juices have all but dried up.  My fun thoughts have bogged oft leaving me glum!

This is my latest interior design idea...

The wonderful oars I bought with the intention to use as a handrail down the stairs, magically by my powers of artistical excellence... (modest, I ain’t!)
have metamorphised into curtain rails!

Now if there is one thing that I personally think as naff, it is the seaside niknackery that many coastal homes get decked out with.
However the oars strangely enough are excused my scorn... could it be I idly wonder, because it is my amazing idea?

  1. They look amazing!!.I know what you mean with seaside tat from the tourist shops...but I love the oars!.I love your end of the country because I used to live in Ramsgate 40 odd years ago.My house has a stone and decking garden, and the stones have shells from beaches Ive been to,bits of drift wood, bits of fishermans rope all placed on it.I sit a deckchair on it and pretend Im in Deal or Brighton!.Oh to live at the seaside again!

  2. You mean you haven't got a wooden seagull standing on one leg on your window sill?!

Good use of the oars and I doubt they count as seaside tat, bet there aren't many to be seen on the beach nowadays

    1. I do have a seagull made out of driftwood, which as I sit up in bed knocking this reply out is languishing on my old builders ladder beside the bed. You wouldn’t beiieve the pile of poo underneath? Luckily him being made of wood, the sawdust poop is easy to clear up!?! I think I will free him today. The builders ladder isn’t left my the builder, but one I acquired, like you do (?) in my travels.

  3. Subtle and clever, they look great.

However, like Sue, I think you need a few more touches - some chain and an anchor in the front garden, a lobster and a couple of starfish on the wall.

    1. What I do have in my front garden is a length of rope from a gorilla’s cage. It took me blooming ages to weave through the railings. After I had finished, man said, you will have to take it out when I paint them! Looking at it recently I did think I am skating on the side of naffness... story of my life really.

  5. Very clever. I think you now need to find a rowing boat to be filled with geraniums for your garden too!! I think we're all a bit flat just now. There's so much madness in the world and our own little worlds are full of stresses and worries too. It shall pass! (hopefully!) x

    1. Couldn’t agree more about the state of the world. Can’t be bothered to read the paper or watch the news... think I will retire to a hut in the deepest countryside. Must confess I have always had a yen to become a trampess!
A rowing boat would fill our front garden , it would have to be pea green...

  6. I've not looked in for a little while, having had all kinds of computer probs, but I do like the oars as curtain rail, brillianto idea! Yes, all that seaside stuff is naff. We live only a mile from the sea (not close like you - you can hear the waves and perhaps get spray in your garden!) but when husband built my little summerhouse, I didn't want it looking all sea-sidey at all, even though it's beach-hut shaped. Have you bought curtains yet?
On the theme of sea side things that readers have suggested, perhaps one of those lighthouses filled with the various coloured sands from Alum Bay off the Needles? Don't forget a deck chair by the front door!
Sorry you feel you have lost your blogging mojo. I really enjoy your blog! It's like a breath of fresh air - indeed, fresh sea air!

Thank you for saying you enjoy my blog, I do enjoy doing it, although with so much going on at the mo, it does rather take a step back.

  7. Sorry I have not read your blog for ages. Have been busying myself elsewhere and mainly all to do with Mrs H's artworks and buying a new Rolls to replace the ageing Bentley which has gone to an enthusiast.
Oars as curtain rails, yes probably a novel idea . Not one that I would do as I simply hate dust catchers.
