toast? As I sit holier than thou with my bowl of grapes and a mandarin, all I really want is toast! This morning sees the start of podge patrol. The smell of his brekkie is driving me to distraction, so much so I have taken myself back to bed in order to get away.
If you think about it, bread toasted is such humble fare. Plain toast with good butter, what better? I make bread a couple of times a week, always wholemeal flour with the addition of a little white spelt flour and lots of seeds, flax, sunflower, sesame and pumpkin.
When I was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago one of the first things I said to hubby was 'I'll have to teach you to cook now - just in case!' I gave it a go for a couple of weeks then threw in the towel. He said, 'its fine, I can make all sorts of things, cheesy toast, toast and jam, toast and ham, its all good' So, I decided it was indeed all good lol. x
ReplyDeleteWell Marksgran, you obviously haven’t thrown in the BIG towel, unless of course you are commenting from a passing cloud. I get it, the culinary towel you mean, so have you taken up the cooking mantle again? Leaving the man free to proof read his latest book ‘Fifty Shades of Toast’.

It was the towel that I kept weeping into when trying to get him to understand how to cook things! I took up the cooking mantle again long since and he could indeed write the book! (I'm all fine now by the way so please don't fret about me - well I say fine - health wise I'm fine just don't ask me about the craziness I feel settling around me at times!):D
DeleteI always say if I lived alone I’d survive on toast, soup, and chocolate 😍😍 I only really cook (hopefully) healthy meals in an attempt to keep my OH around for a few years more...😂😂
ReplyDeleteToast and soup, yes I’m with you there Karen. Choccie, luckily has never been a weakness for me. Good job too, as in the queue I got short changed on the will power front.

I've lived on toast for breakfast since age 20. Bread full of grains and nuts, slathered in butter. Good fruity jam, if available. Currently at 75 and counting.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Joanne. The staff of life: and butter as opposited to that awful engine oil they call margarine. And you can still count at the age of 75, you are doing well! I could barely count at 15, no hope me going back to school to try and catch up, I suppose?

Toast is healthy, you need carbs for the system to work well, you need butter for all the fat soluble nutrients..forgo the jam and have fresh fruit..all in moderation. There you are, healthy and satisfying!!
