‘Another fine mess...

you’ve gotten me into Stanley!’

We have put our names down to instruct the finer points of pétanque to the under 10’s Football Club of our Ditton Pétanque Club.
On one of the hottest days of the year to a gang of minors who are only really interested in football.  Not forgetting of course England also will be playing a match!?!  Will they be interested in playing a strange
game that at ten they probably won’t even be able to pick up the boule let alone wang it down the piste! Will their frebile little minds be on anything other than
the flaming England match?
Added to which since we moved it is blooming miles away!

Whose bright idea was this?
I suspect it was mine and I don’t even like kids!?!

In my dreams I look like this when I play...

  1. I had to check exactly what Petanque is......as I thought...I know it as boules ! We have a set of metal ones somewhere. Not played it for years. There is a boules playing area ( I expect there is a special name for it ) in our local pub garden. If you knitted yourself a " trouser suit" and wore a scarf on your bonce, I am sure you could look like her !!

  2. Dig them out, go along and have a knock about. It has taken me all this time to find a sport that I enjoy and more importantly can play without making more of a fool of myself than I always seem to do! The playing area is called a piste and if you play a game and don’t get any points against your opponent that is called a fanny!?! I have only been fannied a couple of times... as it were?

My knitting needles are clacking as we speak, I do wear a jaunty scarf on occasions and you reckon that’s all it takes? I’m there Frances, I’m there!

  4. I was just talking about Boules to my friend this week. We had some French children stay for a school exchange trip years ago and we took them 10 pin bowling. Unfortunately it did not occur to us that they would be used to Boules and we nearly got thrown out as they kept slinging the bowling ball down onto the nice wooden floor!! Not to mention our French wasn't competent enough to tell them what they were doing wrong and why. Charades was the way forward but they never did get the hang of it. Fun times. x

    1. It really is a great fun game to play and for all ages and abilities; even old boys who can barely walk can throw a mean boule. Good to be home now though.
