I’m on the turn...

like milk, ideal for making scones though!
I am pining for my old home, I miss it so much.
For my little dog, I miss her so much.

To walk in the garden without being seen.
The peace and quiet of country living.

These madcap schemes of late are to fill the void, I know that now!
Old LL will return, I know that now!

Me in happier times judging a cake contest at UCL...
What is there not to like?  The chance to taste lots of different cakes?

  1. Sorry to hear that you are feeling unsettled. Perhaps you will feel better when the house is " finished"..but does one ever get to that point of a house being finished.....? We have been in this house 39 years, and quite a lot of it desperately needs starting again..never mind finishing! The carpet in this room is getting threadbare, but I keep putting off changing it as it would also mean decorating, new curtains and a lot of furniture to shift to goodness knows where for it to happen ! I am enjoying the cooler weather and loving the occasional rain showers! Can you get another dog? I had my Alexi ( mini schnauzer, who is now 5) only about 3 weeks after losing my first , as I couldn't contemplate life without walks and loving a dog. xx

    1. I could get another dog, although when my much loved rescue dog died, I made the man promise me not to give in to my pleadings? He has only gone and kept his word!

We are on the home straight re. the improvements, the glass arrives today. The end of the week should see it completed.

Now Audrey is in hospital, so that problem is my main concern. And so it goes on...

    1. Thank you Joy, I am a big toughy-toffo, so this is a mere blip, she said confidently!

  3. I'm really sad you are feeling unsettled. If you lived in the countryside before, living by the sea is just totally different. Perhaps time will help. And what about having a dog again? Is that really out of the question? I know you can't ever replace a much-loved doggy companion, but perhaps a new little pal might help?
My goodness, how glam you look in that photo!

    1. Yes, it is a big difference, I have moved lots of times, this time I am older, with an adopted ‘mum’ who is dying. I am up early, worrying, which won’t help her one bit, or me come to that! The dog question, in my heart of hearts, I know that for now, it is a no-no.

Glam, hardly dahling! Plus out of the two photo’s just recently sent to me I chose the soft focus one!

  4. She was a very special companion and that is a lovely photograph of her. The move from beautiful country home to a fabulous seaside house is quite a radical one, no wonder you have your wobbles, it is allowed. ...Now I have completely lost the thread of what I was going to say, sorry...while I have been typing this the new fridge/freezer has been delivered, old one taken away, and my mind has gone a blank - was it ever any other? I hear you say!
ps Cake judge, eh? Shame our village show is not going ahead this year. ;-)

    1. Losing the thread, seems to go with the territory Elaine. Cake judging, you must have done it, what a carry on that is. A skill, which I am not surprised the WI train women to do. At UCL my fellow judge was enthusing about a chocolate cake, I drew my mink stole around my Lady Docker shoulders and prepared for battle... ‘A cake mix dahling!’ I told the vicar, Fanny would have been proud! UCL stuffed full of intellectuals, who you might have
thought wouldn’t stoop so low? It was after all just a bit of fun in an otherwise dry old world of high brows.

  5. Sorry to hear you are having a wobble. If having your own dog is a no no, can you walk someone else’s. Deal is full of dogs if that is any help! Hope the renovations end soon.

    1. Hello Sarah, yes that is what it is a wobble, with a tum the size of mine, hardly surprising! The dog question, I think like the scooter it may be at the time displacement therapy. Do you live in Deal? What a change from thirty years ago when my old dad used to live there, a one horse town if ever there was one, not any more. Here’s hoping Hythe goes the same way... Up!
