A funny sort of...

a week.
We are at the end of an interesting week.
The work is just about done in the house and guess who on the way to the pub wanted to take in a quirky house featured in Country Life?

This morning, while all was quiet in the house the two things I looked up on the internet were dogs looking for a home and humans looking for a new home.  Imagine my surprise on tapping in unusual
properties a house in Hythe popped up.  In the photographs it looked just the thing and reasonably ‘cheapish’!  We all know photo’s tell HUGE whoppers.  There was one small problem it looked in need of TLC and shedloads of money.  The fact it only had one loo and no parking was to me a mere trifle.  It was odd and had a walled garden... what is there not to like?

Good morning!  I have just found this in draft.

It was dated 12 August.  A lot has happened since then.  Not least we went to see the property and boy could I see us living there, a little gem tucked out of the way in the middle of Hythe.  It has so much going for it, so much going against it.  Not least money and huge upheaval.  I am getting too old for this caper, not to mention the man, who like so many husbands humours me, wants me to be happy.  For himself all he really wants is a quiet life!

The here and now is... the house is finally finished, looks superb, just the curtains.  My ideas have worked well, I say rather modestly!?!  Trouble is you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s
ear.  This pig’s appendage is in a prime location, smack on the sea
front.  As I sit knocking this
out, the door is open, the sea is flat calm grey, clouds the same, a gentle breeze, all
is quiet... what is there not to like?

Last weekend we went
up to Cromer to look at a house, knowing all the while that Audrey is failing.  A crazy hair brained idea.  I trawl the internet for quirky cottages, knowing full well the one I left behind will be hard to replicate.

What am I like?  Get a grip LL, pull your socks up and get cracking enjoying your life by the sea...  spoilt lump!

  1. Glad you are back, have missed you. Homes are difficult aren’t they, sometimes house love take a while and you are having your emotions pulled with A.

  2. Thank you Sarah. It has been a rollercoaster of a ride. A. has now got some awful leg problem with her auto immune system shutting down. It is such a worry, and you are quite right about ‘house love’, not that I think I will fall madly in love with it. Maybe just a fling thing!?!

    1. It is good to be back. We have been here since December, no time in which to truly settle. I will certainly post some pictures, I am at the moment organising my treasures, some might say old tutt? The addition of new curtains will I hope soothe just like a dummy with a baby... well that’s the hope?

  4. Seems life by the sea, is perfect, at the moment. Other than that it goes, with care of some person. Don't really know if she is a relative or not. Think not.

For someone who missed being anywhere near the ocean, I can't imagine wanting to leave it. But I'm not you, nor do I know all your circumstances.

    Happy "Full Sturgeon Moon”!

    1. The location is lovely, writing this I am sitting up in bed with a cup of tea, looking out on a flat calm sea... what is there not to like?

      A. is a sort of relative, I adopted her as my mum. I do have previous as my man would say, for some reason I take on ‘projects’ of the human kind! It has been a theme for my whole life. I seem to attract folk like the Pied Piper. I doubt I will change now, nor would I want to...

August is my month, so thank you w.o.w.

  5. If I have learned nothing else its that life is too short to mess about. If you're not happy where you are you should move. Perhaps the house you've seen will be the one that helps you get over your previous cottage? Not to mention now that you've done it all up it will be so much easier to sell the one you're in! I think the fact you keep looking at houses tells you everything it needs to. Being by the sea is wonderful but from what I gather you'd still be in walking distance if you moved to the quirky one? Anyway, its really none of my business but happiness and contentment are paramount in this life and your home should be where both are in spades and I feel from things you've said on here, you're a bit unsettled there. Good luck with decisions to be made!! Sorry to hear of Audrey. It's difficult and not going to get much easier I guess. Glad to see you back here again. I missed your lovely posts. xx

    1. Wise, wise words... love it! Thank you so much. A ‘bit unsettled’ is the understatement. For a glass half full sort of a lass I have had an interesting time not feeling my usual rumbustious self. My fear is if I feed this unsettleness where will it all end? Added to which the Audrey situation puts a brake on us going anytime soon, no bad thing, my sensible head says! Thank you for taking the time out for adding your thoughts to my blog, I can’t tell you how all of the supportive comments have helped me.

  6. I understand!

Sensible head says "There could be lots of reasons why you are feeling unsettled, especially given the situation with Audrey." ...but, this unsettled feeling has been a constant throughout your posts. When things settle down, how about a holiday for a week or two, then see how you feel about a move when you return?..says the woman who really is shouting "Go for it. It sounds wonderfully exciting and how can you hesitate when there is a walled garden?" I wish I could be more helpful!

    Good to have you back.

    1. Thanks Elaine. A holiday is just what is required, although, we cancelled our trip up to my old homestead in Assynt in Scotland, due to Audrey being so very poorly. She has improved tum-wise but now has the most awful thing on her legs, which I have a horrible feeling will be what finally weaves its sepsis magic. We take her to the dermatologist tomorrow; her legs are looking more and more swollen and ulcerated. Her immune system is shutting down. It is all such a worry: the upshot of all of this is I have no plan to get old!?!

Just had a funny email from her, which I am just about to post. She is sooo worth the effort and heartache.
