Boy, have we had...

a week?
Our house purchase has been off, our vendor pulled the plug, then moved the goal posts.  We sadly started looking at other properties.  Then at close of play on Friday, maybe, just maybe it was back on again!  She is a very tricky lady to deal with; straight talking which I admire, with a thick veneer of bolshie, which I don’t!  We both so want this property, we are prepared to humour her.  My usual MO would be to say something rude and tell her where to hop off!  In fact I did say how I felt to our lovely lady rottweiler of a solicitor who laughed and said

‘That’s right LL, sugar coat it!’

We were due to exchange on Friday and three weeks later complete.  Now we are trying to get our buyers to agree to her demands of a three month delay between
exchange and completion.  On Monday the solicitors are working towards getting a deal in place
with a view to exchange this week.
Living in a house half packed for three months isn’t my cup of tea.
Never the most patient of people, I am going to be pacing around like a caged lion, well, I am a Leo, so hardly surprising?

  1. Thinking of our house move from Wales to Devon 18 months ago, I know how you must feel. It's a juggling act isn't it, trying to keep both sides happy so that neither pulls out? Sometimes you have to sacrifice what you personally feel and want just so that the move can go ahead. We were glad when it was all over.

    1. At the moment the Brexit thing hangs over everyone and that makes for even more stress.

  2. What a dreadful situation. Why on earth is the seller selling if she doesn't really want to sell? Living in Scotland and not having moved for about a million years I've no idea what the difference is between exchanging and completing. Once you exchange is she obliged to sell to you or can she still bottle out? I don't think its the same up here but I know I've heard a few people comment its getting more like Englands system now. It used to be if you said you were buying you jolly well had to buy and same with selling! Your word was your contract. It all sounds very stressful. I hope your meditating is helping. Good luck. x

    1. I lived in Scotland many moons ago and what a sensible way of buying and selling they had. Sad to hear it is changing.

The meditating is helping although I am struggling.

    2. Come on Lettice, you can't let the old bat get you down. I know its easy for me to say and very stressful for you but if this house is not the one there will be another round the corner. Why not take another look and see if there is anything out there you like as much and play her at her own game. Or.. put your stuff in storage and go for a long holiday! You must keep a positive attitude and stay well. xx

    3. I completely agree Marksgran! However, it is so hard as this particular property is THE one. Yesterday all day we waited for the call from our solicitor for an update of the latest posturing of the bunny boiler vendor. When it came... all agreed! What though? Nobody knew? Our day was spent looking for similar properties throughout the UK. We drew a blank. In the meantime I seem to have developed stress asthma! You couldn’t make it up? This is me, the person who nothing phases, a toffee-tougho of the first order!?! Not anymore I am afraid. I am so cross with myself for letting this get to me so badly when folk, no names, no pack drill, suffer so much more than this healthwise! Keep well... you!

  3. I am pleased to say that due to your apt descriptions, I will recognize on sight the very tricky lady and the lovely rottweiler.

    1. What will this week bring? I wish I could say I’ve stopped caring, truth is I haven’t and my health is deteriorating as a consequence.

  4. Do you really want this house? The whole scenario would put me off it and I would find somewhere else.

    1. If only it was that easy Rachel, unfortunately I have fallen in love BIG time with this house, no others come close. In a way I wish they did then I could tell her where to hop off! Even now we wait. As you I am sure you know the best things in life are worth fighting for, and if it means I bite my tongue then so be it. My usual thing would be to walk away and I have so many times in my life, usually with oodles of time to reflect and regret!

    2. What I mean is, I would see it that she has tainted the house and I would not wish to live where she has been. Thinking of her as I walked from room to room. No thank you.

    3. My plan is to think not one jot of her ever again, after we get the exchange. The cottage is in my book, worth the hassle.
