In readiness for...

the arrival tomorrow afternoon of the techwhizz I dusted off my MacBook and reacquainted myself with it.  Along the way I  had a trip down memory lane looking at the huge amount of photo’s therein.  Sad was how I felt as so many featured my lovely little dog who has been dead six years.  In that time I realise just how much of my mojo has gone.  It’s a funny thing that probably only dog people will relate to... just what fairy dust a dog adds.  Alright, along with dog hair and muddy footprints, but still!?!
The husband says, now wouldn’t be the right time and I can only agree... damn!  Our plan is to get a rescue dog, so what with the upheaval of workmen and us planning on a trip back to the Highlands later in the summer, now definitely wouldn’t be a good time.  My plaintive cry of let’s just go to look!?!  Is met with, it won’t surprise you...
‘No, you know full well it won’t be that simple!’
Although, after Tish, I am being very specific in my mind.  Hold tight L.L. that might not be so easy when you actually get there?
Lost for words, I am, well at least for the time being while I plot my next move.  Suggestions as to what and how would be gratefully received.

This isn’t Tish...

  1. May I be so bold as to suggest you set a date when you will begin the real search for a dog and try to keep an open mind. We've had two puppies and two rescue dogs. All have their problems and issues. However every time the dog 'spoke' to me, it picked me. There was no doubt about it. Our first rescue dog hadnt been trained and had clearly been punished when she peed (presumably in the house) so she thought peeing was bad and held it in so long that when she did it, it was involuntary and a flood. I couldn't work out how to retrain her and came so close to taking her back to the rescue centre until my vet stepped in one day when I phoned him in a dreadful state having been peed on in bed the night before. He told us we must not punish her at all and only praise her when her pees happened outside and do you know within a week she was totally retrained! She was sheltie cross and we had no more intention of getting a sheltie at that time but once she was home with us we were totally smitten, hence my meltdown when I couldn't train her properly. We'd asked the centre for a Benji type dog (do you remember Benji the wee terrier on tv) but Candy (she already had that name) came rushing towards us before we could get through the door as though we were long lost friends and how can you refuse! It's a very emotional process getting a new dog but once you see one you like you won't be able to leave it so maybe get the workers out the way then start your search. Keep in mind it will happen though, kid on its a pregnancy and you have a few more months to prepare yet!! Have a fun techie day, I hope all is better once the techie has gone than it was before! xx

  2. No, that is a lovely old Setter. I have never entertained the notion of another dog after Angus, the cairn. I do like Marksgran's notion of treating it as a pregnancy and then waiting to see who you birth.
