There once was...

an ugly duckling...
You have all heard the story, I’m sure?
Well, I have previous as the police might say, especially on ebay.  To give you an idea I once bought a sack barrow on ebay when I was idly looking for a metre or two of hessian!
I will at some stage be getting a new kitchen, not for me the all singing all dancing, cost an arm and a leg sort, just a kitchen with style and panache.  I need a sink, not the usual, why doesn’t that surprise you I idly wonder?
I found an old sink that looked a treat, not your on trend butler’s sink, something a little different.

This was the one, alright some TLC  was required... not a problem.
The bid was duly accepted, the man was sent to Sittingboune to collect all 71 kilos of ceramic.
Boy was I pleased.  It did look forlorn and in need of some Ajax and attention.

This is the handsome brute now.
Next problem is locating a kitchen base unit capable of supporting the weight of a lead lined sarcophagus.
No prob., I’m just off to look on ebay...

  1. Nice 'score', as they would say here across the pond! It will be fun to watch you transform your kitchen. I don't know if it was 'lucky' or not, but State Farm insurance covered a kitchen complete re-do for us a couple of years ago, thanks to a pipe burst. Glad it was on their dime, but sorry for the hassle and months-long mess. I'm sure your kitchen fix will be must easier to go through!

    1. A new kitchen on the strength of a burst pipe? It must have been some water feature you had going on there?

    1. And in such good nick. To save water I could sit in it myself instead of filling the bath full. I well remember as a child sitting on the wooden draining board and being given a wash. Those were the days!

  3. Wow! You've done a grand job there and what a handsome sink that is. I'm giggling at the thought of you being let loose on eBay to find a base cupboard to support that sink. Goodness knows what you will end up with!!!!

    1. Umm... you could be right, at least the builder is on my wacky wavelength. Together we can work it out?

  4. If you can't find a base, you could either build up on with bricks or use the sink as a trough outside for plants, ha ha! Hope you can find a plug for the plug-hole, too!

    1. Funny you should say that Margaret, at my last house I had exactly that a sink, the shallow ones with dimples around the side, set on bricks. Boy, did I have a problem talking the builders round to my idea. I thought it looked a treat, probably not many other folk did however!

  5. That's a very handsome sink. I've just filled an old butler sink with pansies. It was the last thing to come out of the old kitchen, the skip had gone and it was too heavy to take to the tip!

    1. This sink is for the kitchen. Back to its original purpose, it really is a handsome brute and blemish free, amazingly.

  6. You could fit several chunky rugby players in there. Very nice indeed.
