Is a diary/blog...

nothing more than a selfie with words?
I idly wonder?

    1. The thing is... I write a diary. The attic groans under the weight of the boxes that contain them. Leafing through, I sure as hell will never get published posthumously, added to which I wouldn’t be around to enjoy the ‘fame’!?! Like so much in my only child world my main focus is ... yes you’ve guessed it... me! All totally BORING! I do enjoy the frisson of writing my blog, the thoughts whirring around in my head committed to cyber paper.

  2. That's one way of looking at it, but for me writing in a diary every day is my history. When I started out doing my family history I read that you should write down your own life to leave for your descendants, things that have happened, people that you meet, places you go, thoughts, ideas etc.

My diaries are also helping me with an ongoing mammoth task at the moment - photographs! I am trying to organise them into date order and my diaries are helping no end.

    1. Couldn’t agree more. I got bored with doing my family history because there wasn’t anyone of note, disreputable or otherwise. The odd vagabond would have perked me up no end.

  3. They reveal an awful lot more than most selfies.

You are such a mischief, Lettice! You have me practically ready to write a whole essay on the subject - and were I to write what I really think, and have observed, then I could be in a heap of trouble - and I don't mean with any of my bloggy friends.

    1. Ooh, go on Elaine, do tell! This would make for interesting reading. I worry about you I really do, especially the bit ‘Were I to write what I really think etc!’

Heap of trouble? This is my take on it... the family? Why as the matriarch of an interesting family wouldn’t you say what you really think? When I read your blog I am in awe of all the things you do, just for goodness sake don’t forget about Elaine along the way.

    2. Ah, no. I have confused you. I meant observations on other people's blogs/comments - none of the ones I follow in my sidebar, by the way!

    3. That’s okay then. Yes, I am in total agreement. So many things that are best left unsaid i.e. the B word, drinking, sex, drugs and rock and roll. Have I left anything out?

    1. A selfie in my book is what I think is wrong with the world, the me, me, me society we live in. I know that’s rich coming from me...

  5. Are you pouting in your selfie with a trout pout? Those are the very worst kind in my opinion. Why people think that's a good look I do not know! I feel you are not pouting or I for one would have to stop reading! x

    1. and another thing......... are we, the readers of blogs then voyeurs? Peeking into the lives of people we don't really 'know'? You could write a book!

    2. I couldn’t pout if I tried, my lips are too thin and mean looking. I suppose I could go and get a shedload of fat taken off my tum and shot into my rosebud lips. Then I could old trout pout to my heart’s content, obviously not forgetting to take a selfie of my honed washboard tummy. All I’d need then would be a bar of Sunlight soap...

And another thing, I’ve only just seen this comment... sorry!

And another, another thing, a snapshot into ordinary folks lives, what is there not to like? My blogs are me, warts’n’all, why would folk fib? Say it like it is LL... boy has that got me into some bother over the years!
