I said I ...

would go in today to help with the setting up of the patient’s party tomorrow.  I still wasn’t feeling a 100% better after developing this awful cough and cold three weeks ago.  My volunteering career was going nowhere f a s t !  Two days after my first and only stint as a volunteer I got this blasted hacking cough.  I sort of felt duty bound to go in even though I felt pretty grim.  I reported to the reception of the ward only to be told that the ward had the sickness and diarrhoea bug and they would fully understand if I decided not to stay.  I walked away heartsick that the old hardy me would have carried on regardless.  The sorry thing in all of this is suddenly I don’t feel as inviolate as I once did!

  1. You do know where you caught this thing, you know. At the other volunteering "stint". You immune yourself to the can invasion before you go back. Chair, book, blanket, tea, dog.

  2. Sounds like you're have a rough time just now. I think you did the right thing stepping away from the bugs. You've got a dog to look after now so you need to stay fit and healthy for walking duties so you're not being selfish looking after yourself! Perhaps you need more alchohol, then at least you won't care!! xx

  3. We have to look after ourselves too, otherwise we will be available to look after others. I am glad to hear they gave you the choice. There seems to be alot of nasty bugs going around this year, I don't know if it is just a case of we know more about it or with our culture of getting on with it regardless is spreading things too easily. Staying at home and resting until we are better is the best place we can be. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. It is soo hard to give in especially as it isn’t my usual MO! Our neighbours both doctors said it was a good call to walk away, not only for me, but for the people I could then share the bugs with, so you make a very valid point.

  4. When you do get clear of this cough, ease back into things, don't rush..we had something like this three years ago...full recovery takes time

    1. For a tough old bird like me, this has been a nasty one. Usually I bounce back at speed... not this time sadly.
