what I could best describe as a plate of dark pink blancmange?
‘It’s for you to help build up your strength!’
‘What is it?’ I feebly enquired.
‘The liver from a freshly slaughtered lamb!’
‘Thank you so much Iain!’
What else could I say as my tum did back flips in horror?
Most nights the shepherd would call, climb the stairs to come to see whether his neighbour showed any improvement. After hard days on the hill he found the time.
My admiration for the kindness and generosity of the Scots knows no bounds.
Wow, was that offering cooked? He is truly a kind shepherd though.
ReplyDeleteAfraid not! It was so fresh it seemed to me to still be quivering from its sudden demise!?!
DeleteYes he is and I now repay him by sending up home cooked cakes and jams etc. A lovely, lovely man.

What a kind and lovely neighbour. I had a similar experience back in the day when I was a young thing! Hubby and I went up to Diabeg on the west coast to stay in a caravan with our 10 week old baby! It was rustic to say the least however on the morning after we arrived there was a knock at the door first thing and I opened it to find the man who owned the caravan standing there clutching some fresh fish he'd just brought back from his fishing boat for us! I'd never seen a fish as fresh as this ie with a head and tail on still! I had no idea what to do with them and had to go to the one and only phone box in the village to phone my mum for advice! I'm not sure I can tell you it was delicious as there were numerous bones we had to pick out, I clearly wasn't very good at cleaning fish! However we appreciated the kind thought behind the gift. I think especially up north people are very kind and thoughtful. If only that could spread like a virus eh! xx
ReplyDeleteThe kindness of strangers and neighbours takes your breath away. The unlooked for things I always think are the most poignant.
