Alright, alright...

I know you are not supposed to entertain visitors in these days of lock down.  I think an exception can be made for this our   nocturnal guest.

Food, water and a cosy billet are supplied.  Airbnb eat your heart out!
This not very good picture was taken last night when I turned on the Wrenery lights to put Ellie out before bed.  Hopefully you can see the hedgehog at the bottom of the tree trunk?  By the time Ellie came back in it couldn’t be seen as it was sampling the delights of the cold buffet in  the bijou hedgehog lodge.

We also have a thrush that is working its magic with the garden snail population.  I am delighted and feeling more Durrell everyday!
A result in an otherwise dreary
Covid landscape.

  1. Down the other end of town we too can boast a hedgehog visitor, nothing as smart as your billet, but it has a cosy home made from logs and twigs, calling cards left on the lawn each morning and spotted often on garden camera next door whose occupants are as delighted as we are.

Swap your Thrush (not seen one here for a few weeks) for 9 Starlings and a mafia of Jackdaws who are wolfing their way through several feeders with fat balls and meal worms each day, flipping expensive keeping this "cafe" stocked. Ration books will be issued soon.
Yesterday's delight was watching mummy House Sparrow and 3 chicks on a seed feeder as she fed each one in turn.

    1. Don’t they just bring joy into this otherwise weird world we all find ourselves in? We are so lucky in so many ways, not least by the wildlife that enhances all our lives. Sounds twee I know but I don’t care! Enjoy!

  2. How exciting. You're doing well and all this excitement will be sure to cheer you up into the bargain! I had all the excitement I need today going to Tesco for the fortnightly shop.(I'm slowly stretching it to fortnightly from weekly) I hate it, but needs must. x

    1. Sure is Joanne, last night it was having a drink out of the Beatrice Potter bunnikins dish, sort of appropriate. Then it nipped into the prickly presidential suite for a little light buffet, then I suppose by way of payment scoffed a few of the slugs in the hotel’s owners garden.

  4. I loved the Durrell's!

I have been wondering? It looks to me that the Wrenery is below ground, how would the hedgehog get up the stairs?

    1. The Wrenery is on the same level as the cottage, the steps go up into the garden. I have taken the precaution of putting rocks and logs by each step to enable the hedgehog to get up and patrol the patch.

  5. Hedgehogs have always held a special place in my heart, you are fortunate to have one visiting your BNB.

A year has gone by...

and the sourdough saga continues, nothing much changes, apart maybe my level of frustration at my tarnished bread making skills of a ferment...
