‘Your face is on...

the tea towels you can’t cancel it now!’
was said to Lady Di on the eve of her wedding day.

Yesterday morning sitting up in bed I said to Hubs, let’s cancel the holiday and stay home, that way Ellie won’t have to go back to the kennels.  His reply was we must go, I knew he was right.
We took her talking up what a lovely time she
would have.  She was pleased to see Emma and with all the strength I could muster we said goodbye in a light hearted tone.
I saved my tears for the car driving home.
This morning the house seems strangely quiet without after just four weeks, a vital member of our family.

If the weather closes in as it can so easily do in the Highlands, we could always come home earlier than planned!?!

  1. Try and enjoy your holiday.....you never know they might have her fully trained in all areas by the time you get back!!

    1. We are half way here and some. On the journey we have both been thinking about her and how she is coping. As well as that worrying about us leaving her, setting her back. Although once we are all reunited that will be the time for us to breathe a huge sigh of relief and for the training proper
to start... of us, as well as her!

  2. NO! I remember when my children were small (I was a stay at home mum) my husbands company always held an annual ball which required us to stay overnight in Dunblane (about 45 minutes from us) and every year I was a nervous wreck leaving them safely in their own home with their very experienced and much loved grandmother. Every single year I was convinced something awful would happen and I was always desperate to get back home on the Sunday. Everyone else took advantage and went out for lunch etc and arrived home for bedtime on Sunday but not us! We were home by lunchtime and let me tell you every single time once I was home and everyone was checked over for any missing parts etc I regretted my angst as they were fighting with each other and driving me nuts within an hour of our return!! They were absolutely fine and in fact loved having their grandmother to stay and I think you'll find Ellie will be absolutely fine too. She may not speak to you for a day or two - they are very good at guilt tripping us - but she is safe and will be ok. You must try not to imagine what she's thinking - I do that and its not appropriate, dogs don't think!! Please try to enjoy your friends and let yourself relax a bit as I'm certain on your return she will be totally over the moon to see you again and you'll wonder why you worried! Plus, we are having a rare sunny weekend - whats not to love lol. Enjoy xx

    1. MG, you are a caution! I can well imagine you clucking and fussing like a fluffed up mother hen. Serve you right too that on your return seeing they all still had their requisite arms and legs, you were regretting your haste to rush back!

We passed you by, and waved. Now not a million miles away at Blair Atholl. A good journey up, and over half way.

  4. Yes, you could come home early. Or stay it out, as she will be well cared for every day, and does not have the same concept of time, I think

    1. I think you’re right Joanne, their time clock works different from ours... and as this will be the last trip away for us for quite a time, we will enjoy and make the most of. We did both say numerous times on the trip yesterday, it would have been hell for her, even the fifteen minutes to the kennels she had drooled enough the completely drench a towel on the back seat. We will with help, hopefully slowly get her more relaxed in the car. Then trips out won’t be such a trial for us all.

Woke up in Scotland to a beautiful morning, onwards and upwards...

    1. It’s almost like we enjoy it in a ghastly way? We are home early I have achieved all I set out to do in the Highlands, just the second phase of commitments, then we can finally hunker down and carry on!?!
