Trench coat collar...

turned up, trilby pulled low over my eyes Inspector Clouseau-like I followed her.  I overheard, (that in itself is a miracle, with me being so flaming deaf! ) a table and chairs being mentioned.  A few days prior our local charity furniture warehouse had collected a set of finest Ikea dining room chairs.  I ought to say here I have a penchant for chairs.  Our home on occasions has resembled a dodgy backstreet clinic with chairs lining the walls.  As only two bums reside here there is a very good case for discovering exactly why so many chairs are required?  Freud might have a sound explanation, I couldn’t possibly comment and even if I had a sneaky idea I wouldn’t tell!  As the van roared off up the road, I jokingly said to himself, it won’t be long before I buy more.  Little knowing that just nine days later I would be on the case to acquire more, hence me following the lady in question.

This time I am doing the advanced having bought an Arts and Crafts table and four beautiful high backed chairs and one side table.

The problem now is how to get these latest treasures on the the wheelbarrow down the hill and home?

They sure as hell beat the Ikea chairs.  My addiction has gone up a notch. I’ve gone all Burne-Jones,

husband’s gone all peculiar...

  1. Hmmmm . . . I don't particularly have a penchant for buying chairs, but I do love a bargain. Last year, in between lockdowns, I followed up an advert for 4 wooden dining chairs. They fitted nicely into my Berlingo chariot and I brought them home proudly pleased with myself. Next day, on a sudden whim / brainwave, I transferred the table from the kitchen into my study, to be used as an extra desk. It's still there and the 4 chairs are still stacked in the garage.

  3. I rarely use chairs myself, having been blessed with a body better suited to the Electric Chaise-Longue.

  4. I actually can appreciate the need for more chairs. I have a tendency to note abandoned one offs looking for a home. Can't say I always take them, but I have a good lookie loo and oft times filled with regret later. I am currently in the need of a dining room table (on the smaller size as area not accommodating current table and chairs comfortably without crab walking on 2 sides) and do not want new and not necessarily "matching" chairs. Most of our furniture is very mish mash, by choice, so have needs for a non matching table and chairs. With the penchant for downsizing here, every thing is a monstrosity so the search goes on. Husband worried that I will pick up lost and lonesome chairs and try to later find a table to work with the chairs. I say better to have chairs to sit on than a table to eat at, not that he agrees. Time will tell as I continue my search. Ranee (MN) USA
