I must confess...

I have without too much faff got a handle on the new blogger format. While I impatiently wait for the new flat thing to arrive,(today... Yay!) it will then be ‘frustration central’ as I get a handle on the new equipment.  Added to which I have to get a man in to turn me on, as it were!  A little knowledge is a bad thing, as in this house we are both as gormless as each other... worrying but there you are!

My next idle thought is, what is the form for writing emails these days? Those in the know seem to just launch into what they are saying without a by your leave, then don’t even bother to sign oft.

What is a woman of the quill pen era to do?  Follow suit or stick to the old ways?  I haven’t the foggiest?  By my stocking tops I am pulling myself into the 21st century, so I have a very real need to know about such things, so answers on a postcard would be much appreciated!

  1. I start and finish most emails as if writing a letter. For the accountant for instance it still starts Dear .... and I sign off "With best wishes" but omit the Yours sincerely. Emails to my group of crossword friends normally starts "Dear All" and signs off similarly, Best Wishes. To close friends I start with "Hi" and sign off with my name and a X. Hope that helps. When in doubt, keep relatively formal with how you address and salutations.

  2. I'm with Rachel on this one too. Unless I'm really angry with a company, then I just blast at them with no niceties!
Good luck with your tablet. I hope you get it set up quickly. x

    1. Yes, me too. The tablet has arrived and I am taking it for an overnight stay with a local tech-whizz who will put all info from my tablet of stone onto my latest bit of kit. Whether I will be able to work with it when I get it is a whole other story? He will bring it back on Saturday morning and give me some tips and hints as to the way forward? I might be gone some time!?!

  3. What happen to your old tablet, is it not working anymore?
I like to hold on to my devices until they clonk out on me!
Don't try to teach me new thing, I'm too old for that! All I won't is, to enjoy live for my remaining days on this earth and not be frustrated dealing with a new devise and other not important things.

    1. My old one is full so I have upgraded to the same only more all singing, all dancing, you know me Moni.

My old one is being wiped clean, so the memory will be empty, then the old codger can use with gay abandon, as it were! His old one is also full. So it all seems to make sense, well that is until I find I can’t make head nor tail of the new one. Then tears before bedtime...

  4. I start my emails with a minimum or Hello, name. I can't get the hang of just jumping in. It's analogous to not saying hello to the teacher when the teacher says hello to the class. Just plain rude.

    1. Yes, I agree. I recently have been following the style of friends emails to me, although it does seem not quite right. So I will revert back to my usual old fashioned ways.

  5. I am like Rachel, beginnings and endings and kisses to friends. Some people have a permanent saying pegged at the ending, not sure I like them though.

    1. The signing off you mention reminds me of printed Christmas cards. Too impersonal, and don’t get me onto the blooming round robin missives that some people churn out telling you of how wonderful they all are and what excitements, travels, now clean through the night carry-ons (?) they have all been up to since the last self-congratulatory Christmas round-albatross!

  6. I'm with you on the 'correct' way to write emails; to my mind it's just a different way of sending a letter, so why should etiquette, grammar and spelling go to pot? The younger generation laugh at my texts, too, as I never use abbreviations and always use proper grammar. When I receive a reply to my long-winded message saying, 'NW' I have to text them again, asking what NW means. 'No worries'!!!! I ask you. Why can't they write proper!??

  7. Best to start with the town you live in, followed by the date

    Then a white line

And then address the person you are emailing to.
